Secure sites (i.e. SSL protocol of https://yadahyadah.com/...) still seem to be be predominant in terms of secure transactions, but what other models have been proposed/attempted/succeded/failed in the time of this original writing (i.e. post '99)

Identification and authorization need not be just or a person. A bot running on my computer can identify itself and show it is authorized by me to carry out some transactions. It might then make some transaction with another bot on my computer that dentifies itself and provides credentials showing it is authorised ny MicroSoft to collect licensing fees for their softaware running on my PC. they might interact with a third bot authorized by my bank that guarantees there's enough money to carry out the transaction,. The same bot authorized by my bank would also charge usage fees from third party programs using my computational power when I'm not using it (and use the money to pay MS for my use of their software)..
