Andy Oram: A well-known problem with biometrics is that it actually has problems working over a network. I don't know whether it's worth mentioning here; it might be better brought up later to bolster a discussion of trusted computers. Besides the "dead hand" trick mentioned in the footnote, a snooper could capture and reply the data. To work over a network, the recipient must be sure a legitimate, untampered-with device was used to accept the biometric, and this leads to trusted computing.
